The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah arrested three people over suspicions of running a network for spying for the United States and Israel, sources told the Al Arabiya news network on Monday. The three suspects, identified as Mohammed al-Husseini, Jihad Jaloul and Mohammed al-Sabaa, were nabbed in a southern Beirut suburb, the sources said. The three double agents have been active among Hezbollah members and provided both the CIA and the Mossad with information about the armed group. A report by the Lebanese daily An-Nahar said that the three spies were not members of Hezbollah but had good relations with people in the group. In June 2011, Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah said his group had identified at least two spies working for the CIA of the United States who had infiltrated the ranks of the party. He proceeded to dub the US Embassy in Lebanon a “den of spies,” according to Lebanon’s Daily Star. Nasrallah is scheduled to deliver a speech on July 18 in commemoration of the sixth anniversary of the July 2006 war between Lebanon and Israel. Nasrallah will probably touch on the issue of the Beirut spy network, the Daily Star reported.
