Senior Hamas leader, Dr.Salah Al-Bardawil, and the head of the Media Office, have announced that a delegation from the movement led by Khaled Meshaal, the head of the Political Office, will meet with officials in Cairo next week to discuss the implementation of the Palestinian reconciliation, in addition t a number of other outstanding issues. Bardawil denied reports that some leaders from his movement have approved Salam Fayyad as the presidential candidate for the next government, stressing that this was unfounded, and noting that Hamas has completely rejected Fayyad as a candidate. Bardawil considers that the way out of the impasse with the Palestinian reconciliation is the implementation of the agreement away from procrastination and “foot-dragging”. He said that Hamas is prepared to sit down with the Fatah movement, away from what he described as stagnation and the dictates of one party over another. Bardawil confirmed what a member of the Central Committee of Fatah, Azzam Al-Ahmad, said with regards to the insistence of President Abbas on the nomination of Fayyad for the next government, stating that it was evidence for the fact that Fayyad has no right to the presidency, and claiming that it was proof of Hamas's honesty. Al-Ahmad said that the insistence of President of Mahmoud Abbas on the nomination of Salam Fayyad as Prime Minister during the transitional period has disrupted the Palestinian reconciliation. The Egyptian Ambassador to the Palestinian Authority, Yasser Osman, announced during a meeting with Palestinian leaders in the West Bank that the Egyptian leadership will soon call for the Palestinian factions to meet in Cairo, in order to discuss ways of overcoming the obstacles that stand in the way of reconciliation.
