Hamas leader and spokesman, Sami Abu Zuhri confirmed that Hamas’s relationship with Cairo is stable. In a press statement, Abu Zuhri said: “we are keen to maintain strong relations with Egypt and we continue to have regular contact. We hold meetings every now and then in order to maintain our relationship.” Abu Zuhri also expressed his disappointment in the stalling of the Hamas-Fatah reconciliation process. “It’s sad that the reconciliation process is moving so slowly. The last meeting during Ramadan did not address the topics that we had agreed upon, including the issues surrounding political prisoners and Palestinian passports.” He accused Fatah of being disinterested in the reconciliation process, because it has been distracted by the UN bid.
