Sources revealed that Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Affairs in the Egyptian House of Representatives begins next week to discuss the agreement delineating the maritime border between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, under which Egypt will relinquish the islands of Tiran and Sanafir for the benefit of the Kingdom.
The sources said, in a statement to “Arabs Today”, that the past period has witnessed meetings between the Government and the Parliament in this regard to expedite the discussion of the Convention. They added that the government succeeded in persuading most MPs that discussing the convention in the parliament, in its capacity as the legislative authority, is not contradicting at all with the verdict issued by the Administrative Court, which stipulates nullification of the Convention.
The sources added that the government offered documents proving the Saudi possession of the two islands, saying that the parliament turns to ratify the agreement conducted between Egypt and Saudi Arabia over a year ago.
