Angry residents of Beirut blocked streets on Friday in protest of weeks of power cuts across the country that has not even spared the capital. A group of motorcyclists in the evening blocked the Murr Tower road and hurled stones at some cars heading towards Achrafieh. At 1930, motorcyclists moved to al-Ghazal tower on the eastern side of the crossing and cut off the road by burning tyres before security forces intervened to open the road and shots were fired by civilians on. Security officials gave chase but failed to make any arrests. Roads were also cut off in the Cornish al-Mazraa area's "New Road" by power-cut protesters. Army units were able to later re-open them. Meanwhile, clashes took place in Ayn al-Delbah near Mreijeh in the southern suburbs between some men over a girl, leading to the injuries of two men, Hussein Ali Safwan and Mohammed Mohiuddin Saaidon, who exchanged machinegun fire.The injured were taken to a hospital, where one of them died. Security forces are on the hunt for the shooters. Members of the Akroum and Jafar family also clashed with medium to heavy artillery in northern Bekaa, injuring an officer in the army , Ibrahim Ali Hassan, by shelling his home in Akroum.
