Army doctor cleared in virginity test case

The Egyptian military court on Sunday acquitted an army doctor identified as Ahmed Adel in a \"virginity test\" case that was filed by Samira Ebrahim after being held in jail on charges of participation in a riot, assault, beatings and insulting the armed forces. The tribunal said in its verdict that it was confident that the doctor was innocent due to conflicting testimonies given by witness Rasha Abd Al-Rahman with other witnesses\' testimonies earlier, Egyptian television said.   The Court rule will be according to what is mentioned in the official files, the chief of military courts said. The doctor’s lawyer, Howaida Mostafa Salim has asked earlier to clear the case due to the conflict in witnesses’ testimonies between Rasha and others.   A number of girls had claimed that they were subjected to \"virginity tests\" by military doctors after participating in anti-military protests last march.
