Tripoli – Emad Agag

Armed militia from Libya\'s Western Mountains, attacked the office of Libya\'s interim prime minister in central Tripoli, on Tuesday, in an apparent protest over outstanding payments promised by the government. They surrounded the building while firing in the air, which led to many wounded and dead. It is not clear whether prime minister Rahim el-Keeb was present in the building or not. According to local sources, clashes with machine guns broke out between rebels of the capital and armed militia, and security forces and rebels surrounded the region. An eyewitness from the capital said, in a telephone call  with Arabstoday: \"the space in front of the government building, located by the railway junction, witnessed street battles and many ambulances and civil defence units rushed to the area. Many of the wounded from both sides were in a serious condition. No source has announced a specific number of deaths yet. An official in the Libyan interior ministry, said he was in  the building at the time of the attack. He added that at least two of the guards from the headquarters of the Libyan government were killed, and others were wounded in the attack, by former revolutionaries who were demanding rewards for participating in Gaddafi\'s downfall. The security official, who requested anonymity, said: \"two or four guards were killed, and several more were wounded.\" The official added that a large number of armed men, who were surrounding the building, shot him with  weapons including anti-aircraft guns.
