The opposition in the Algerian Parliament failed in the first parliamentary session for the 8th legislative mandate to agree on one candidate to run for the presidency of the parliament, while the government parties agreed on Algerian President party candidate, Saeed Bou Hija, who eventually won the presidency of the National People's Assembly.
Politics expert, Abdulali Razzaki said in a statement to “Arab Today” that, the opposition candidates are a direct message to the government saying that it will use the powers given to it by the constitution in the upcoming 5 years, but it also proves its dispersion because it couldn’t agree on one candidate, and the government will greatly benefit from this inside division.
Deputy of “Peace Society Movement” and head of “Change Front”, Abdul Majid Manasra criticized the opposition for not being capable to provide a worthy candidate, while “Peace Society Movement” representative, Nasser Hamdadoush told “Arab Today” that, they wished to present a compromise candidate but they lacked time, confirming this won’t prevent any coordination or joint cooperation between opposition parties during this legislative mandate.
