George was a long-term supporter of Syria’s president Beirut - Soliman Asfahany Renowned Syrian singer, George Wassouf, has joined the Syrian opposition, according to informed sources. The prominent star, who was known for continuously backing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has abandoned his support for the leader. The Arab artist is in Qatar with his son after his return from Beirut. Sources have told Arabstoday that George Wassouf will stay in Doha for a while to avoid any backlash over his decision. His family will also join him, the source added. Wassouf allegedly held a number of meetings with Gulf officials in Dubai, which "may have altered his support" say sources. However, Arabstoday have been told that Wassouf’s decision came after governmental troops killed a number of his family members in Homs, a city in western Syria.
