Warning issued on dangers of domestic gas

A gas safety awareness campaign has been launched by Dubai Municipality in co-operation with Emirates Gas and Dubai Civil Defence. The ‘Check your cylinder... Ensure your safety\', campaign will run from August 15-30. Liquid Petroleum (LP) gas cylinders are widely used in homes and commercial establishments, such as hotels and restaurants, and the fuel is highly inflammable. The gas is stored under pressure in the cylinders and it expands in hot temperatures which could then lead to an explosion. Article continues below Educating consumers The campaign aims to educate consumers about the dangers of incorrect usage of gas cylinders. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said maintaining health and safety is the duty of every member of society. With summer\'s high temperatures, Ramadan and increasing pressure on kitchens, fires and incidents involving gas cylinders are more serious. The next stages of the campaign in the second half of this year will include distribution of awareness brochures through petrol stations and inspectors of Municipality and Civil Defence.\"
