As part of celebrations marking the World Down Syndrome Day, the Shafallah Center for Children with Special Needs will organize a sports festival for snowboarding in the villagio Mall next Tuesday.
The 10th annual celebration marking the World Down Syndrome Day is held under the logo ‘My Opportunities, My Choices’ – Enjoying Full and Equal Rights and the Role of Families' adopted by Down Syndrome International and down syndrome societies. As it coincides with the 21st anniversary of the International Year of Family, Down Syndrome International this year highlights the role of families and positive contribution towards persons living with down syndrome to enjoy full and equal rights with others and to become active members of society.
The Shafallah Centre for Children with Special Needs aims to publicize the case of down syndrome and the rights of persons living with it as well as the integration of children with Down syndrome in society through awareness and various programmes for promoting confidence in themselves and their abilities and provide psychological and social support for people with Down Syndrome and their families. It seeks constantly to spread and raise awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities in all areas through educational, training, tutorials, sports, recreational, physical and community integration programmes.
