A new spinal clinic offering pain management and non-surgical treatments for a range of chronic aches and diseases was inaugurated at the Dubai Health Care City on Wednesday. The American Spine Centre will now offer everything under one roof from pain medicine, physiotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy to the latest protocol of Intervertebral Differential Dynamics (IDD) therapy, which promotes the natural healing of degenerative discs, pain medicine consultant Dr Hassan Jabbar Shaikh said, adding that patients suffering from chronic pain in the neck, back, hip or legs, sciatica, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, lower back discomfort or posterior facet syndrome can benefit from the non-invasive treatments at the centre. \"IDD therapy has an 80 per cent success rate and works where even drugs, epidurals and surgery have failed,\" he said, adding that patients are put through 20 gentle treatment protocols on advanced Accu-Spina equipment over four-six weeks. Abdul Kareem Al Olama, Executive Director of the Centre for Health Care Planning & Quality, said, \"Back pain has become a part of our modern lifestyles. This clinic, which offers non-invasive treatments, will complement existing centres of excellence.\" Although statistics for the UAE are not available, Ivan Kulik, Chief Operation Officer, said 70 per cent of people above the age of 40 suffered from back pain in the US. \"We believe it would be no different here as well.\" From / Gulf News
