New cases of bird flu have been recorded in several cities and districts of southern Germany
Munich - QNA

New cases of bird flu have been recorded in several cities and districts of southern Germany, local authorities said on Sunday, days before the planned cull of 8,800 geese in the north of the country.
In the state of Bavaria, where farmers have been ordered to keep fowl indoors since Friday, the Health and Food Safety Authority said the virus had spread to wild birds in the cities of Nuremberg and Ingolstadt, as well as six other districts.
According to German press agency (dpa), the H5N8 virus has been detected in 10 German states since it was first registered in the country on November 8. Cases have been reported in several other European countries.
This particular strain of avian flu is not thought to pose a danger to humans but is highly infectious among domestic poultry like chicken and turkeys.
In the state of Schleswig-Holstein on Germany's northern coast, authorities are preparing to begin culling 8,800 geese as early as Tuesday, a local government spokesman said.
