Kuwait celebrates the World Cancer Day, which falls on February 4 as designated by the World Health Organization (WHO), under the slogan "Not Beyond Us".
Kuwait Cancer Control Center (KCCC) held a celebration on Wednesday, including a fair to spread awareness on this disease, besides other activities including walking competition and planting, with participation of KCCC various departments, public welfare societies, companies and school students.
KCCC Director Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi said in press remarks that this celebration includes an awareness campaign to encounter cancer, based on key factors, namely: Healthy life choices, early detection, treatment for all and quality of life.
World Cancer Day is an initiative launched by WHO, and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), working together to unite the international society's efforts to fight cancer.
KCCC Deputy Director Dr. Reem Al-Asousi said in remarks to KUNA today on the sidelines of the celebration that the center is seeking this year to correct misconceptions related to inability of fighting and curing cancer.
She stressed on the importance of spreading awareness and true information about cancer among the society individuals and all specialized bodies.
Al-Asousi praised the Ministry of Health efforts, supporting breast cancer screening programs, and an upcoming Colon cancer screening program, which greatly contributes to discovering the disease in early stages.
