The Friends of Kidney Patients Society
Sharjah - WAM

The Friends of Kidney Patients Society, part of the Supreme Council For Family Affairs in Sharjah, has offered AED110,000 in the first quarter of the current year for the purchase of two dialysis machines for the underprivileged in response to the Year of Giving initiative.
Mariam Khalfan bin Dakheen, Director of the Friends of Kidney Patients Society, said that in the first three months of the year they worked on expanding their awareness programmes. The aim was to increase the prevention of kidney diseases and offer treatment to needy patients. They organised over 40 events including lectures, which witnessed the participation of 1,200 people of different ages and nationalities.
"In line with the Year of Giving initiative, we hope to reach out to as many people as possible in the UAE. This follows the vision of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, to maintain the health and safety of citizens and residents by providing them with exceptional healthcare," bin Dakheen said.
The society organised a special event on the occasion of World Kidney Day, which included visiting the Al Qassimi and Al Kuwait hospitals. They viewed the dialysis machines, which they had donated earlier, checked on the kidney patients, and distributed presents to about 45 patients.
The "Healthy Lifestyle for Kidneys’ Health" event, which included a workshop on healthy food, also included free check-ups with the participation of ten entities from public and private sectors.
The Society also participated in the "Healthy Monday" programme, which was executed by the Health Promotion Department and the associations which support health in the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah. They conducted 210 free check-ups and distributed brochures and fliers introducing the society. The first quarter of the current year witnessed seven other community events through which it offered check-ups for around 150 people.
With the aim of strengthening its awareness efforts, the society conducted a lecture and workshop in a school in Sharjah to encourage students to take care of their health. They also encouraged them to educate their parents, siblings, and friends on the importance of eating nutritious food to maintain kidney health.
