Chinese health authorities said Thursday that the number of human infections with H7N9 bird flu in China has reached 100 this year.
The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangsu are among the most heavily infected areas.
The latest case has emerged in the city of Shantou in Guangdong.
That province has recorded 43 bird flu cases so far this winter.
Local officials said they are in the process of shutting down live poultry markets. However, they said that process won't be complete until June.
