The celebration of Emirati Women's Day reflects the UAE leadership's profound belief in the contributions of women and their role in the country's development, said H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region.
In a statement to mark the day, Sheikh Hamdan said that since the establishment of the UAE federation in December 1971, women have always enjoyed the respect and appreciation of the country's leadership.
He said the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE, was keen on empowering women and recognising their rights. He underlined the importance given by the leadership to enhancing the status of women, thanks to the wise vision and support of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Sheikh Hamdan extended his greetings to the Mother of the Nation, H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council. He applauded her role in empowering Emirati women to play a crucial role in the community, not only as a mother or a doctor, but also as a leader, minister, parliamentary speaker and businessperson.
He also saluted the mothers and wives of the UAE martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their country.
"The mothers and wives of martyrs have presented a shining example of strong and proud Emirati women," he said.
