Florida man William Johnson, 26, needed money and wanted it fast. So, he Googled "how to rob a bank" and carried out a heist following exactly the steps explained there.
He walked into an Achieva Credit Union branch in Largo, Florida on Thursday. Once inside, he told the tellers that he was carrying a gun and then decamped with a huge amount of money.
He squandered most of it on a drug binge. With the rest of it, he paid his rent and utilities bills.
Johnson was nabbed by Pinellas County sheriff's deputies at an Express Inn in Pinellas Park on Monday night, a HuffPost report says.
"Detectives interviewed Johnson and he admitted to the bank robbery," the sheriff's office said in a statement on its website. "Johnson told detectives he was in need of money so he Googled 'how to rob a bank'," it added.
Johnson initially planned to rob a nearby Wells Fargo branch, but "changed his mind" after seeing that the teller was "a large male", he told the investigators.
