Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, Spain's First Deputy Prime Minister, got an insight into the UAE's rich heritage, culture and development model, and learned about UAE's plans to host the Expo 2020 in Dubai during a visit to the UAE Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015.
Santamaria was welcomed by Salem Al Ameri, Commissioner-General and Deputy Director-General of the National Media Council (NMC), which is organising the pavilion, and Mubarak Al Dhaheri, its manager who took her on a tour of the Pavilion.
The Spanish Minister was briefed on the UAE's vision for participating in the international gathering and then watched the film, ‘Family Tree,' and another presentation on Expo Dubai 2020.
The short film, ‘Family Tree', follows a young girl, Sara, as she learns that the values and experiences of past generations can help in our quest for a sustainable future. The mini-drama highlights the scarcity of water and celebrates the role of the date palm in sustaining life in the Emirates during difficult times. This very special tree provides a window to traditional life in the 1960s and reveals the astonishing development that has taken place in the UAE in a little over 40 years.
She expressed her admiration at the contents and themes of the Pavilion, and wished the UAE, in general, and Dubai, in particular, success in hosting the Expo 2020.
Over the last few days, the Pavilion welcomed a group of ministers, senior officials, businessmen and enthusiasts from Malaysia, Qatar, Italy and other countries.
