Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Nasser Shraideh, called for establishing a Turkish logistics center in Aqaba to enhance Jordanian-Turkish trade ties and relaunch of an airline route between Aqaba and Istanbul, which had been halted for sometime.
Shraideh said, during a meeting with Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication Ahmet Arslan Sunday evening, that strong commercial and tourism relations between Aqaba and Turkey will offer many investment opportunities for the two sides, as well as improve ties in all fields.
He stressed the importance of stimulating tourism movement between both countries, especially that Jordan has a number of historical and archeological sites.
Shraideh also pointed out that Aqaba looks forward to further Turkish investment in Aqaba, expressing hope to conduct a study on establishing a Turkish industrial zone in Aqaba, in addition to a Turkish logistics center.
Turkish Minister Arslan said that his country is currently looking into the reasons behind suspending the direct air route between Aqaba and Turkey and called for offering more incentives for the charter aircraft through the King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba, adding that the airline will return to operate two weekly flights next year.
Arslan visited the new ports in Aqaba and was briefed by Aqaba Ports Corporation Director General Mohammad Mubaidin on the corporation’s work mechanisms, as well as the stages of establishing a Roll-on Roll-off shipping line between Aqaba and the Turkish city Iskenderun.
