H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an administrative resolution No. 2 of 2017, pertaining to preparing Sharjah to join the Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities.
The administrative resolution states the importance of environment in determining healthy ageing and encouraging the creation of age-friendly environments.
The new administrative resolution aims to create a physical, healthy, social, economic and cultural sustainable environment in Sharjah, which will enable the Emirate to be the best place for the elderly people to improve their quality of life, actively participate in community activities, share their experience, and grow old.
According to the resolution, all the government entities should work to meet the criteria of the Global Network for Age-friendly Cities, through engaging the elder people in the society and providing them with the appropriate support to make Sharjah more age-friendly.
The resolution stipulates that the time frame of joining the Network for Age-friendly Cities is from October 2016 until October 2020, or obtaining the international accreditation "Sharjah is an essential Age-Friendly City", whichever is earlier.
Under the supervision of Sharjah Executive Council, SEC, a committee should be formed to follow up the ongoing directions and oversee the implementation of this resolution.
The resolution is effective from the date of its issuance and competent authorities should implement its provisions.
The resolution also annuls all rules that contradict its provisions, and shall be published in the Official Gazette.
