H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah, has praised the Ras al-Khaimah Waste Management Agency for launching an innovative recycling programme, entitled "RAK Recycles," in a bid to modernize the waste management technology used by community members in Ras al-Khaimah.
His Highness instructed the residents of Ras al-Khaimah to adopt the sustainable lifestyle of previous generations and begin living to create a more sustainable future. He added that by following this new system, the community in Ras al-Khaimah will confirm its desire to create a sustainable future. "Together we can maintain the cleanliness and greenery of our emirate, for us and for future generations," he added.
When it was launched earlier this year, the RAK Recycles initiative covered the areas of Al Dhait, Al Rams and the southern region of Ras al-Khaimah, but in 2018 the initiative is expected to expand to areas that include Al Hamra and Mina Al Arab. It is also expected to be adopted by small companies, and will introduce a special recycling programme targeting individual schools.
The initiative, which was launched by the Ras al-Khaimah Waste Management Agency, should enable all community members in Ras al-Khaimah, as well as local schools, government organisations and companies, to separate types of waste before being placed in designated bins.
The agency will distribute free green and brown plastic bags for recycling in all parts of Ras al-Khaimah, starting from 20th September, to encourage people to separate food waste from other recyclable materials.
