Her Majesty Queen Rania on Wednesday paid a visit to the Family Care Society in Amman’s Jabal Hussein neighbourhood, during which she toured the society’s facilities and was briefed on the services it provides. Her Majesty commended the society’s work and dedication to its beneficiaries and stressed the need for such cooperatives to help develop their local communities. Accompanied by the society’s director general, Hanan Ghosheh Al Hassan, the Queen toured the facility’s sewing workshops and exhibition area, where she saw the income-generating products that the society’s beneficiaries produce. She also met with a group of 30 members and beneficiaries of the society to be briefed on the main services it provides and to hear from the beneficiaries about what they have achieved through their interaction with the society. The Family Care Society was established in 1969 by a group of women to provide services to refugees and other underprivileged families. The society currently has almost 400 beneficiaries and provides several services to the women living in the surrounding area of Jabal Hussein in addition to other areas such as Marka and refugee camps such as Baqaa, Hitteen, Hussein and Talbiyeh. The society operates several kindergartens, including one for 50 children in Jabal Hussein and others in refugee camps, holds workshops on traditional dressmaking and handicrafts, and distributes food to underprivileged families. It is also in the process of establishing a commercial kitchen to benefit the women in the local community. From: The Jordan Times
