Obama surprises Little Leaguers in Washington

President Barack Obama paid an unexpected visit to a group of Little Leaguers in Washington, D.C., on Monday, ahead of his trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame on Thursday. The Tigers were playing the Royals in a Northwest Washington Little League game -- the 10 to 12-year-old division -- when the president's motorcade rolled through Friendship Park on its way to a fundraiser. Obama stepped onto to the diamond with the kids, threw out the first pitch and took pictures with the players and their families. "I don't see him every day. It's sort of grand. It just felt amazing," 10-year-old Danny Ringel, who caught the president's pitch, told WJLA. The president also dropped off White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, whose 9-year-old daughter, Della, happens to play for the Royals. Carney described the stop as a coincidence, telling the Washington Post that he didn't find out about it until the morning meeting. "I try to make her games, so I was going to go anyway," Carney said.
