U.S. President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama met with troops at Marine Corps Base Hawaii to wish them a Merry Christmas, the White House said. After opening presents Christmas Day at their Honolulu vacation spot, the Obamas traveled to the base to address and meet with 580 troops and their families. The troops were gathered at the Anderson Hall dining facility for Christmas dinner. The president told those present he called 10 service members stationed in Afghanistan, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. "It was just a sampling of the incredible sacrifices that all of you and your families make every single day. Michelle and I know that we would not enjoy the freedoms we do if it weren't for the incredible dedication and professionalism and work that you do. The least we can do is just let you all know we're grateful to you," President Obama said. "Thank you so much for your great work," he added. "We hope all of you have a Mele Kalikimaka and we hope you guys have a great new year as well." The Obamas then posed for photographs with service members and their families.
