Thae former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, was shifted to hospital after developing medical complications en-route to the special court for appearance in treason case on Thursday. The military strongman fell sick as he was on his way to the court to appear before the bench and was shifted to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in Rawalpindi city. The special court on Wednesday issued orders for Musharraf to appear before bench on January second, 2014 in treason case against him warning that warrants for his arrest would be issued in case of failure to comply with the court's orders. The government leveled five charges against Musharraf, asking the special court to award the military ruler death penalty or life imprisonment in high treason case. Musharraf's lawyers have already contended that the treason charge levied against him is politically motivated and that proceedings would be a "show trial". Musharraf said, "The way this tribunal was formed, which involved the prime minister and the ex-chief justice, this itself smacks a little bit of a vendetta." Musharraf faced number of cases against him on his return back to Pakistan after four years of self-imposed exile to contest in May 11th General Elections, but was banned by the court to take part in the elections. He got bail in all cases against him including case of murder of Lal Masjid (red mosque) cleric, assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and Nawab Akbar Bhugti murder case. The former President is currently living at his famous Chak Shehzad farmhouse under strict security in capital city Islamabad.
