Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza has thanked Bahrain’s leaders for their keen interest in sustainable development projects and their continuous directives to achieve international commitments in terms of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

He was speaking during a visit to Youth City 2030 organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in cooperation with Tamkeen at the Bahrain International Exhibition Center.

The minister was accompanied by the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Amin Al-Sharqawi and Sustainable Energy Unit head Jehan Al-Murbati.

A number of innovations on renewable energy have been presented at the Youth City by working groups participating in the programme. The minister handed over certificates and awards to the group that won the best innovation prize, which incorporated the idea of ​​using solar energy to operate a device using batteries that are powered by solar energy. It regulatesthe use of and preserves medicines and also regulates users’ time to take different drugs according to the doses and time.

The minister said Youth City 2030 is an embodiment of the efforts of the wise leadership, and their belief in the importance of ambitious young people and their achieving national goals.
He said the Sustainable Energy Unitaims to encourage such innovations and create young Bahraini cadres that contribute to innovation and applications in the fields of renewable energy for the present and future.

The minister praised the unit's support for the programme by presenting prizes to the winning team and their participation in activities and programmes.

Youth City 2030 is held annually under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
The minister thanked the organizers, headed by Mr. Hisham Bin Mohammed Al Jowderand Assistant Undersecretary for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Iman Janahi.

Al-Sharqawi said that the project contributes to highlighting the objectives of sustainable development. He praised the support of the wise leadership and all the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Officials and organisers expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude to the minister and officials of the Sustainable Energy Unit for their support and their participation in the activities.
