H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, opened today the 1st Edition of the Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) 2015 which is running parallel with IDEX 2015, the world’s leading joint defence exhibition .
Present at the opening were Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Badr bin Saoud Hareb Al bu Saidi, Omani Minister in charge of defence Affairs, Ahmed Juma Al Za'abi, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs, Major General Ibrahim Nasser Mohammed Al Alawi, Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, Mohammed bin Abdullah al Qutbi, Ambassador Oman and a number of senior officials.
Sheikh Mansour praised the role played by IDEX exhibition in strengthening peace and security in the region and underlined the latest defence technology displayed by 1,200 defence manufacturing companies taking part in the exhibition.
Sheikh Mansour was briefed on the unmanned systems displayed as part of UMEX and their advantages in environmental and humanitarian operations.
Last year, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched an initiative to promote development and designing of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), "drone," that is capable of taking the delivery of government services to the next level.
