Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September if their schedules allow for it, Sputnik reported Friday.
"I have no doubt that, if the ministers' schedules allow for it, a meeting will be held. Lavrov and Kerry are holding a record number of meetings, I think, in the history of our bilateral relations," Zakharova said.
The top diplomats frequently hold meetings and have telephone conversations to discuss pressing global issues and questions related to Russian-US relations.
The last time Lavrov and Kerry met was on August 5, on the sidelines of the annual Southeast Asia countries' ASEAN forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
