His Majesty King Abdullah II Sunday paid a surprise visit to the Rehabilitation and Vocational Training Centre for People with Disabilities in Ruseifah, which is run by the Ministry of Social Development, to check first-hand on its services.
The King stressed during a tour of the facility the need to improve its condition, raise the level of service and upgrade its equipment.
He said elevating the level of training at the centre and the other facilities for persons with disability across the Kingdom is necessary in order to build their capacity and enable them to find jobs and raise their living standards.
King Abdullah said “the modest resources” at the centre would preclude the chance for proper training and rehabilitation of persons with special needs to access the labour market, calling for more attention to be paid to quality training and creating a suitable environment in all rehabilitation centres countrywide.
He directed the Royal Court to work with the government to improve infrastructure and upgrade technical equipment at the centre within the next weeks.
The centre offers training for two years for about 60 young men and women with minor disabilities within the age group of 16-30 years, with the aim of vocationally qualifying them to become productive members and self-reliant.
The King was accompanied on the tour by the Royal Court chief, the director of the King’s office and the Royal Court Secretary General.
