His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa and British Queen Elizabeth II today attended the crowning of the winners of the military show-jumping championship, which was held as part of the international Royal Windsor Horse Show.
The ceremony was attended by leading British personalities as well as equestrian sport fans. The championship was held on the Cup of HM the King and the Cup of the military show-jumping championship.
At the end of the race, HM the King and the British Queen crowned the winners. HM the King then crowned the Bahraini military team which finished first in the military show-jumping championship.
The victorious team includes Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, First Sergeant Ahmed Mansour and First Soldier Saber Hassan.
The King crowned the top three winners in the endurance race. He also honoured Royal Endurance Team riders Jaffer Mirza, who finished fifth in 120-km race, and Ali Al-Subai who won the 80-km race.
HM the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa presented HM the King’s Show-jumping Cup to Egyptian Abd Al-Said and honoured the other winners.
HM the King thanked HM Queen Elizabeth II, for the warm welcome and hospitality, hailing her keenness on strengthening historic friendship binding the two countries.
“Bahrain’s participation in the race stems from deep and special historic relations binding the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom”, HM the King said, hailing long-standing ties which are based on friendship, and mutual respect.
He affirmed Bahrain’s keenness on participating in such glorious and highly- competitive races which attract jockeys and teams from all over the world which augurs well for the future of the endurance and equestrian races.
BDF Military Sport Federation secretary-general Commodore No’man Rashid Al-Hassan introduced to HM the King members of the military team, which clinched the military championship.
Bahrain Authority for Tourism and Exhibition (BATE) held a pavilion, on the sidelines of the championship, showcasing traditional handicrafts and folklore. The BATE delegation also promoted Bahrain as a tourism destination.
