His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces attended at the Martyrs Memorial on Thursday, a ceremony that was held by the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army on the occasion of His Majesty’s coronation anniversary, Arab Revolt anniversary and Army Day.
Upon arrival, the King was greeted by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. General Mahmoud Abdul Halim, heads of security departments and the director of the Martyrs Memorial.
The King received an official welcome that included a 21-gun salute by the artillery. He was also greeted by a guard of honour as a military band played the national anthem of Jordan.
His Majesty laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and recited verses from the holy Quran. He also toured the various sections of the memorial.
The ceremony, which was attended by a number of Royal family members, also included screening a documentary on the efforts of the Armed Forces to protect the country as well as the roles of the martyrs and the injured in defending the Kingdom.
His Majesty also bestowed medals upon families of a number of martyrs, as well as on a number of army, public security, intelligence and gendarmerie personnel in recognition of their distinguished efforts and sacrifices to preserve security in the country.
The ceremony was also attended by the prime minister, senate president, Lower House speaker, president of the Judicial Council, Royal Court chief, the president of the constitutional Court, the director of the King’s Office, the king’s advisors the Royal Court secretary general and directors of the departments of intelligence, public security, civil defense and gendarmerie.
