Secretary-general of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Hala Al-Ansari welcomed a resolution issued by Minister of Culture Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa regarding the formation of an Equal Opportunities Unit (EOU) in the Ministry of Culture The SCW's secretary-general praised the resolution as a constructive practical step to activate the principle of egalitarianism through merging women’s needs in ministerial and institutional programs and projects and to implement the national strategic plan for women’s renaissance. SCW’s secretary-general pointed out that the Equal Opportunities Unit (EOU) will definitely contribute a lot in supporting Bahraini women’s empowerment and realization of the principle of equal opportunities and merging their needs in development plans through training and assuming leading decision-making positions in the Ministry of Culture. Al-Ansari emphasized the Ministry of Culture’s concernment with regard to boosting working women’s position in order to gain expertise and skills and lauded their active role in the Ministry and she expressed readiness to support and assist the Equal Opportunities Unit in the Ministry of Culture which aims at finding equal opportunities for women and men equally alike in the government’s programs, projects and services. It is worth mentioning that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Monarch of the Kingdom of Bahrain had earlier issued Royal Decree No. (14) for the year 2011AD regarding the creation and organization of the National Committee for follow-up and implementation of the national model to merge women’s needs in government plans presided over by SCW's president Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa and membership of SCW Deputy President, SCW Secretary-General, Minister of Human Rights and Social Development, Economic Development Board (EDB's) CEO, Shura Council’s Women and Child Affairs’ Committee head and the Bahrain Women’s Union chairwoman. The committee was formed as an outcome of the first national conference convened by Bahraini women and is considered a great landmark in Bahraini women’s march aimed at activation of women's role and merging their needs into development plans.
