Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash held a meeting today with Luis C. de Baca, Ambassador-at-Large at the U.S State Department to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons and prepare the U.S. Human Trafficking report. Gargash, who is also the chairman of the National Committee to combat human trafficking, shed light on the UAE's strategy in combating the transnational crime of human trafficking. The country's strategy is based on four major fronts, which includes legislation, empowerment of competent authorities to combat the crime, rehabilitation and repatriation of the victims and international cooperation, Gargash explained. He also welcomed on Tuesday the accession of Palestine to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a full member. The minister said that this is one of the positive steps that sets the Palestinian state in its natural place in the international arena. "UAE congratulates the people of Palestine and its leaders on this historic achievement, which is the result of conscious diplomacy adopted by the Palestinian National Authority with support from the fraternal and friendly countries," Gargash added. He expressed the wish for building on this positive step to consolidate the legitimate role of the Palestinian state in the international arena.
