Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry left here on Monday for New York to lead Egypt's delegation to UN Security Council session on the occasion of Egypt's presidency to the current UN session.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Counselor Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shourky's three-day visit to UN premises will include meetings with a number of foreign ministers and UN officials.
Abu Zeid said the top Egyptian diplomat will chair a ministerial session on fighting the ideological discourse of terrorist organizations. The session will be attended by foreign ministers of UN member states on the occasion of Egypt's periodical presidency to UNSC in May.
Shourky will take part in a high-level discussion at the UN General Assembly that will address enhancement of maintaining and building peace at the UN structures.
He will also meet with the foreign ministers of Hungary, Netherlands, Argentina, Norway, New Zealand and UNGA president.
The top Egyptian diplomat will also meet with the Arab group at the UN to discuss a set of Arab issues that will be raised at the UNSC's agenda.
Shoukry will also be interviewed by a number of news agencies and foreign newspapers and will take part in a ministerial working breakfast called for by Egypt.
UNSC held a session on May 6 under Egypt's presidency to discuss Arria Formula to provide protection to the Palestinian people under occupation. Arria-formula Meeting on Protection of Civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory shed light on the daily suffering of the Palestinian people and called on the international community to shoulder responsibility in this regard within a legal framework.
