Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman al-Safadi
Amman - Emirates Voice

Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman al-Safadi on Monday warned of the consequences of tension and escalation in the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram al-Sharif and called for immediate restoration of calm and respecting the legal and historical situation in the holy shrine.

The minister said Jordan is exerting intensive contacts, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, to reopen the Al-Aqsa Mosque and deescalate the situation to defuse a crisis that would be difficult to contain if escalation continued.

In a statement to Petra, Al-Safadi stressed that no one should be allowed to undermine security and stability and open the door to further acts of violence and extremism.

Meanwhile, the minister received a Japanese parliamentary delegation which is in Jordan to take part in a meeting for Asian and Arab parliamentarians on population and development which will open in Amman tomorrow.

During the meeting, the minister stressed the need to end the political impasse in the peace process and to join forces to kick-start serious and effective talks that will make progress towards resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution, which is the only way to bring about security and stability.

He said that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital to live in peace and security alongside Israel would bring peace to the region and contribute to defeating extremism and terrorism.

Al-Safadi appreciated Japan’s efforts in establishing peace and stability and thanked Tokyo for its support for the Kingdom and the assistance it has given to help alleviate part of the burden Jordan holds as a result of the Syrian refugee crisis.
