Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that human rights observance is a part of Islamic values and beliefs. He made the remark in a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay at the sideline of the ongoing 19th United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. Stressing that human rights was an inseparable part of the Islamic beliefs, he said the system ruling in Iran now gains power from the votes of people cast through a democratic procedure. He also stressed the sensitive role of the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in world developments. Salehi further urged all international organizations to play their due role in world events. Pillay described Iran as a country with great history and civilization which is pioneer in many areas in the region. The two officials further discussed the issue of human rights in the Middle East region.
