Brussels - Emirates Voice

Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, on Tuesday met with The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, in Brussels, where they discussed cooperation between Jordan and the alliance in technical, political and training fields.

During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral agreements and support programs as well as ways to enhance and renew them, including Jordan’s membership in the group of advanced partners with the NATO and the bilateral cooperation and support programs for Jordan, such as enhancing defense capacity and finance funds directed to the Kingdom.

They also discussed regional crises and ways to develop coordination and cooperation with the NATO in combating terrorism and supporting regional security and stability.

Stoltenberg hailed His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts for the stability of the Middle East, and said he looks forward to receiving the King at the NATO headquarters.

He also praised Jordan’s great efforts in hosting a large number of refugees.

Minister Safadi also met with EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, for a discussion of regional developments, Jordan’s partnership with the bloc and the outcome of an EU-Jordan Association Council meeting held yesterday.

Safadi called on the international community to mobilize further support for Jordan, due to the enormous burden posed to it by the influx of Syrian refugees.

The European commissioner valued Jordan’s humanitarian role and stressed the importance of continued support for the Kingdom in this regard.

The European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee hosted Safadi in a session, in which he gave a briefing about Jordan’s priorities with regard to the partnership with the EU.

The committee’s Chair, David McAllister, stressed Jordan’s role in supporting regional security and stability and commended the Kingdom’s humanitarian role toward the Syrian refugees as well as its role in combating terrorism and extremism.
