Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, opened the Historical Documents Centre in Shindagha on Wednesday. The centre, which contains more than 20,000 documents collected by the municipality, aims to have all the documents that tell the history of the Emirate of Dubai as well as of the nation.
Lootah stressed DM's continuous efforts in compiling these valuable documents that can help in documenting the history of Dubai and the UAE. The Historical Documents Centre, which is set up under the Architectural Heritage Department of Dubai Municipality, was opened at an event attended by representatives of government departments and personalities who have contributed to the provision of historical documents of the Emirate of Dubai.
There are nine exhibition halls in the centre, including the Shindagha Hall, which showcases the documents of Ahmed Obaid Al Mansouri, the Al Maktoum Hall with the documents of Dubai rulers, the Economic Hall with documents related to trade and economy, both of government agencies and private, the Administrative Hall with documents related to government departments, and the Old Maps Hall, the Newspapers Hall, the Magazines Hall, the Seals Hall and the Signatures Hall.
The opening of the centre was synchronised with activities such as the restoration of historical documents by Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage, and the historic photos of the Central Military District in Dubai. Lootah also honoured those who contributed historical documentation to the centre.
The centre will document the historical achievements of the Emirate of Dubai in the cultural, economic and urban fields, and Dubai’s mutual relationship with other emirates of the UAE, the Gulf states and all countries of the world, documenting the historical journey full of accomplishments.
