DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem met with the Algerian Minister of Public Works and Transport, Abdelghani Zalene, recently to discuss plans for development of DP World Algiers.
Operating two ports in the country – DP World Djazair and DP World Djen-Djen – the global trade enabler has contributed to Algeria’s economic development for almost a decade. It is working with the government to develop its operations for the benefit of businesses and local communities.
DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, said: "In the run up to Algeria’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and in light of recent oil price fluctuations, diversification of the economy is a path that the government has embarked on in earnest. Our global operations of 78 terminals in 40 countries and partnerships with governments around the world have shown that multimodal trade infrastructure and seamless supply chains are integral to the prosperity of nations.'' "In partnership with Algeria’s leadership we’re looking at ways to increase efficiency and capacity at DP World Algiers as the economy grows. Investments in trade infrastructure, accompanied by state-of-the-art technologies like our Dubai Trade electronic port community system helps local businesses prosper and access global markets.
"Algeria is rich in resources and people and improved trade infrastructure, transparency and technology coupled with policies that encourage inclusive growth will help unlock its economic potential."
DP World was awarded the concession to operate the container terminal in the Port of Algiers, DP World Djazair, in 2008. DP World Djazair is a joint venture between DP World and the Algiers Port Authority (EPAL). The company also operates DP World Djen-Djen to the east of the capital.

Training and development of local staff to improve efficiency and productivity and engaging with local communities also form part of its operations.
