Fiji Islands want Morocco’s assistance to organize the UN Conference on Climate (COP23) slated late 2017, said, on Friday in Paris, Fiji’s Climate Champion Inia Seruiratu.
“We want particularly the assistance of Morocco which ensured the COP22 presidency,” Seruiratu told MAP following a working meeting with minister delegate for the environment and Morocco’s Climate Champion Hakima El Haité.
He added that his country appreciates progress made during the COP21 and 22 in Paris and Marrakech in terms of fighting impact of climate change, voicing the determination of the Fiji Islands, which will ensure the presidency of the upcoming conference, to continue this dynamic.
El Haité said that the meeting was an occasion to examine the road map of climate champions in 2017, on the basis of broad lines set by the Moroccan COP22 presidency, insisting on the need to speed up the implementation of the Paris Agreement in northern countries, as well as in African and insular states.
