Borg El-Arab airport serves 400,000 passenger a year
Egypt-Japan University for Science and Technology (EJUST) started the first phase of the program to convert Borg El-Arab into the first environmentally friendly city in Egypt
D. Ahmed Khairy, head of EJUST
, said that the Finnish government had approved a grant of €500,000 to finance the first phase of the project.
The project includes study into different modern technologies, which can be applied to the industry, transport, residential and trade sectors to reduce consumption of natural resources, as well as reducing emissions of harmful pollutants to the environment.
Khairy pointed out that the project also involves educating university tutors on environmental issues, teaching various aspects of eco construction through courses and study tours in Egypt and Finland. He hopes that the project will increase environmental awareness among government agencies and non-governmental associations.
The project coincides with the new housing schemes and city expansion of Borg El Arab.
