The United Nations Foundation has announced the selection of Ohood Al Roumi, Director-General of the Prime Minister Office, for membership of the Global Entrepreneurship Council, making her the first Arab member of the body.
The move comes in recognition of the UAE's leading women role at the global level.
The Council is one of the prestigious global institutions of the United Nations Foundation. It is also a strategic advisory board that includes an elite of experts and prominent young business entrepreneurs from around the world.
It is working to launch innovative initiatives, enhance communication and support ideas that contribute towards finding solutions to global challenges based on the recommendations of the eminent representatives of the United Nations, the United Nations Foundation, and the members of the Council.
The membership of the Council is limited to the leading personalities who are selected by the Council directly, based on the leadership and administrative competencies, and their interest in raising the level of awareness of global humanitarian issues.
Commenting on her selection, Al Roumi said her selection "is a credit to the UAE's support to national cadres to play an effective role in the development so as to achieve the UAE Vision 2021, thanks to the continuous support from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum."
She added that the UAE is an important entrepreneurial centre, citing the government's interest in providing an environment and supporting facilities which have made the country an attractive important hub for young talents from various countries of the world.
