Head of the UAE Mission to the European Union (EU) and Ambassador of the UAE to Belgium, Sulaiman Hamed Salim Al Mazrouie UAE, took part in discussions on the situation and rights of women in the Gulf states during a recent session of the European Union Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM).
The UAE ambassador whose intervention during the session was requested by FEMM explained that Emirati women enjoy their rights in education, jobs and political participation, as evidenced by statistics.
He also cleared numerous misunderstandings in the said study about the situation of women in the UAE and gave a detailed explanation of the situation of household labour.
FEMM's session was convened to discuss a study entitled "The Situation of Women in the Gulf States" that was conducted by Atria Institute on behalf of EU to examine progress in the situation and rights of women in the Gulf region in the said fields of education, jobs and political participation.
The representative for human rights at the European Commission and several members of EU Parliament reacted positively to the UAE ambassador's intervention and expressed their admiration of level of women's rights in the UAE.
