Short-term Muslim marriages are condemned by clerics
Religious Saudi Arabian scholars have condemned the act of getting married for the purpose of travelling – describing it as a form of adultery
.
According to Saudi newspaper Al Youm, scholars issued a warning against these types of weddings which occur frequently during the summer holiday.
They called the marriages illegal and asserted that they are not supported by any Islamic regulations of laws.
Young Muslim people are increasingly getting married while travelling abroad, with the intention of seeking a divorce one their holiday is over.
The scholars seek to deter this behaviour during Friday sermons and religious seminars.
