Moroccan actress Latifa Ahrar
The Moroccan actress Latifa Ahrar has lashed out against one of Morocco’s most ?prominent Salafist leaders, Sheikh Mohamad al-Fizazi, after he quipped that any future fourth
wife would be younger and more beautiful than the star, who is known for her secular beliefs.
Ahrar has previously received death threats after provoking conservative Islamists by appearing at a Marrakesh film festival in a thigh-revealing dress.
The actress was not amused by the sheikh’s joke, made to a Moroccan daily paper, and suggested that Fizazi should be psychologically treated, adding that his comments may conceal a secret crush.
The Salafist is known for his bold stances and served a prison sentence for inspiring a terrorist attack in Casablanca in May 2003.
Ahrar said: “I will not stop here, and I am ready for even bigger confrontations with the sheikh and ?his supporters.?”
It is not the first encounter between the unlikely pair, who met at a book fair in Casablanca, where Ahrar requested a photo with the sheikh and members of his family.
The performer, known for her controversial statements and cinema roles, left Fizazi with her head bowed and asked him to pray for her wellbeing.
Returning her smile, he replied: \"None of us know who God will bestow good upon, and who ?will go to paradise.\"
