Syrian speaker of parliament Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham
The People\'s Assembly held a session on Tuesday chaired by Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham, during which the Education Ministry addresses members\' written questions.
The questions touched on issues related to
teachers\' salaries, vocational schools, providing tenure for contracted teachers, employing new teachers, transfers, and private schools, among other issues.
Assembly members discussed various other issues related to the educational process during the session, calling for reviewing curricula, providing textbooks in all schools, opening schools for gifted students, and providing loans for graduates of vocational and industrial schools to help them set up their own projects.
Education Minister Hazwan al-Was responded to members\' questions and queries regarding transferring teachers to administrative posts, vocational and technical education, and teachers\' health insurance, noting that the Ministry is currently evaluating all curricula in order to correct any shortcomings of weakness in them.
The Assembly members then broached other issues, calling for the government to protect citizens from profiteering and curb the rising prices of food and consumer products, in addition to providing the necessary medicine for people with terminal diseases.
They stressed the need for the government to discuss any decision it takes with the People\'s Assembly, particularly decisions related to citizens\' livelihoods.
The Assembly referred a number of decrees to the proper committees for study and the members\' written questions to the proper authorities, then adjourned the session until noon on Wednesday.
