Tawfik Okasha, owner of Faraeen TV to launch controversial channel
Cairo – Mohammed Imam
The owner of Egyptian al Faraeen TV has announced plans to launch a live news channel in Cairo, which will host similar content to Al Jazeera Mubasher that broadcasts
conferences live without editing or commentary.
Tawfik Okasha said the outlet will host anti-Egyptian government speakers and supporters of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood party.
He said the channel will welcome opposition activists from Qatar and all regional supporters of the deposed Egyptian leader, Mohammed Morsi.
In June, Al Faraeen was shut down mid broadcast during a programme hosted by owner Okasha, in which he called on viewers to show support for the Muslim Brotherhood.
According to his twitter account, Okasha had been arrested at the time, though the police denied detaining him.
