Islamist protests have centred on EMPC in recent months
Cairo – Islam Al Khodary
Egyptian Salafists have announced they will mark the second anniversary of the country’s January 25 Revolution with a rally in front of Cairo’s Media Production City [EMPC].
The Hazmon Movement, named after Salafist
leader Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, has called for a strike to protest perceived policies adopted by Egyptian satellite channels, which they accuse of bias against Salafists.
The Movement stressed: \"The channels work to fuel tensions in Egypt by publishing lies that could destabilise the country during this critical period.\"
Jihadist Mohamed Abu Samra meanwhile told Arabs Today his organisation, the Safety and Development Party, would also celebrate January 25 at Media Production City, adding they would be joined by a host of other Islamist groups. “The media is the main enemy of Egypt’s revolution,” Samra claimed.
Some revolutionary groups have announced that this year they will not be celebrating the revolution, which ousted former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, preferring to focus on achieving the original objectives of the revolution instead.
