Egyptian media analyst Nahla al-Madani
Egyptian media analyst Nahla al-Madani has claimed that international newspapers generally supported the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi\'s on July 3.
Reviewing the coverage of newspapers in the US, UK, France and Israel, Madani said that the world \"coup\" was also commonly used.
American and British newspapers differed in their analysis of the situation in Egypt. Whilst some publications explained that the Islamist movement had failed to reverse the country\'s fortunes, others described it as a coup against the president.
Some of the articles also praised Minister of Defence General Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, describing him as a \"safe pair of hands\" compared to other officials.
Madani said that the French coverage focused on Sisi\'s call for nationwide protests, with French columnist seeing events in Egypt as an uprising supported by the armed forces.
Israeli media outlets provided in-depth coverage of the Egyptian army\'s planned operations against militants in the Sinai Peninsula. They compared the June 30 uprising to Egypt\'s January 25 Revolution, and said that the Muslim Brotherhood had failed in its governmental responsibilities.
